SPEAKER_07

Good morning, good afternoon, good night. We're back. Let him shoot his back to my bottom left.

SPEAKER_03

Welcome to your Monday. I'm just gonna leave it at that because I have a feeling that he's gonna be brought up a couple times this episode. Beautiful. Which one? Huh? You know the one. The one that's gonna be coming to Liverpool.

SPEAKER_07

Oh fuck it.

SPEAKER_03

I could use both.

SPEAKER_06

Is that Rio was Star Boy?

SPEAKER_03

He is, man. He is. Play him off the right, Rio on the left. Fair, fair. Speechless, aren't you?

SPEAKER_07

Alright, and next to him.

SPEAKER_08

I don't know. Next to him, bottom middle. Bottom middle. Use a boy deny coming to life and direct, directing an effect. And guess what? He and buzz to the embedded no club yet.

SPEAKER_07

Damn. Wait, wait, wait, wait.

SPEAKER_02

It's like someone talked about Reese James. He's he was on it.

SPEAKER_06

Alright, go go middle top. Go middle top. And next to him, top middle. It's PBB in 1080 PhD. Today I'll find a club and you find a wife. How about that? Perfect. Oh, oh, oh, come back to football.

SPEAKER_01

Denise is about to just send something in the chair with Denise.

SPEAKER_06

He's not gonna show this the world. I know that for free. I can tell you that much for free, actually. Interesting.

SPEAKER_07

Alright, we're gonna move on while he's doing while he's doing this bit. Uh top right. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Support MJ Boy in Africa gang. Blessed to be here. Walk up. Let's go.

SPEAKER_07

Amazing. And bottom right with the with the most shoddy. I don't know if it's shoddy for you guys, this connection on Samuel. But shoddy again. Your internet, your internet hasn't refreshed. I'm even hot spotted. Bro, I'm even hotspotting. I don't know what's going on. That's why you're hotspotting us why, bro, isn't it? No, my internet, my regular internet. You know, I live in a fucking ancient house. The walls are really thick. The walls are really thick, so the Wi-Fi don't it don't really get around the house. The Wi-Fi's kind of like it's like Fabinho right now. It doesn't really get around well. So I'm not sure. Remix that remix that.

SPEAKER_05

Ronaldo, sorry.

SPEAKER_07

No, someone closer to home. No, no, Ronaldo.

SPEAKER_08

So it's kind of home. No, no, no, no, but no, no, no.

SPEAKER_06

Who's closer to home? Who played right back in your team? Alright, bud. Alright, bud. Oh, we're doing this. We're doing this this uh say less. It's my kind of sound. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_07

Um yeah, I'm back. Back again. I don't miss any episodes. I'm just consistent every single week. That's it. And just sponsored by Hydration, the Hydration sponsor of the World Cup. Perfect. Before we start, a big welcome back to Tom, who was out for months with a with an injury. Thank you guys.

SPEAKER_06

Oscill's Oscars. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_07

I'm saying I'm saying podcast injury. I don't care about his actual injury. That's not what I was talking about. He missed a traumatic in the injury. He missed a lot of fixtures due to I don't know. But Tom's back, guys. Better left. I know you're happy to see that. Back from his lone spell on um Galacticos. And doesn't tell me before we before we start. What do they have to do? Guys, I don't know. Funnily enough, before something starts. Sorry. Funnily enough, I don't know who expected us to switch to to online podcast and our episode views go up. I don't know who was expecting that, but shout out everyone that watched the last episode. Everyone wants to hear us talk about Australia, mate. Because we peeped. Australia. Yeah, go back down. Shout out Coda. Coda came back after like months. Yeah, he's amazing.

SPEAKER_06

Charity's gonna be restored. But after this episode it's gonna go back to the city. Shout out on Denise Hader as well.

SPEAKER_05

Denise haters.

SPEAKER_07

Uber everywhere denies hater. I think it is. I think yeah. Some of the comments before Samuel tells you what to do. Shout out Kate. We had a lot of variety in demographic of viewers in that Australia episode. We were getting followers on Facebook. I didn't even know we had a Facebook account, but we were getting followers on Facebook. Oh yeah, yeah, we can.

SPEAKER_05

Wow.

SPEAKER_07

Kate said I'm a rugby union fan and and chiming in on this World Cup for fun and patriotism. No football expert. This take from you guys has been so cool to listen to. Wow. See? Deny, you can convert anyone. Tell her hop off to football. Bud's doing it. When people are giving it. Yeah, why are you trying to why are you trying to why are you trying to act like that, bro? I just watched I just watched Glass. OG Dog said OG Dog said first time watcher. Great content. There's that gonna get it. Uber everywhere is that is Defo Bud, I mean denies hater. Someone commented, did you guys see one of the comments that said uh crazy to hear Australian accent coming out of Africans? But love the pod. Did you please have you seen it? No, but but love the pod. Yeah, what's an African accent? Yeah, that's crazy. No, you got it confused, but it's all right. Uh Samuel, what do they need to do before we start? Guys, make sure that you like, share, subscribe. You hype that up so that we can keep bringing these episodes to you because this is the most consistent we've been in a while. Look at this. Six people in one episode. We haven't had six people in an episode since we used to record Sydney four years ago. This is our started. We didn't even have to call any bench players today.

SPEAKER_01

They all got executed, so it's all right.

SPEAKER_07

You want me to name the bench people? Just here, Bowie, Riley, Mitch. I named four bench players for you. If I forgot someone, that means they're even deeper on the bench. That's reserves, 23s. So look at us, look at what we're doing for you guys. This new platform really has has changed a lot for my mental health, I think. Mainly more so than anything else. Because back in the day, when we used to go to recording and I used to look around, it's like it's like how it would feel when when LeBron when they traded away Kyrie and he was looking around at his team going, What? Last year we were making it to the finals. Look at what I got with me. That's how I felt at some episode.

SPEAKER_06

So I I could I could I could testify I saw in your face some episode.

SPEAKER_02

When he went Europe and it was me and Tom against the world. Oh my me and Tom just did Mori Riley, Mitch.

SPEAKER_03

You know when you do you're like doing an essay and you gotta hit the word count? Yeah, that's what we would do in those episodes. Just filling the air.

SPEAKER_06

Whoa, whoa, what did you say?

SPEAKER_08

Tom, you don't know nothing about that.

SPEAKER_07

Toby said you would do an You did a what? He didn't put an E in front of that word that you said, Tom. He just did it as to Tom. Ah, okay. It's because of this. Adelaide State. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

It's because of this, that's why I said it.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's crazy. Yeah. Guys, well, I think originally before the World Cup kicked off, I had the standpoint of this World Cup is about to be strange. There was no hype, nothing. This is up there. As far as World Cup go, first rounds of World Cup games. It says up there for me as some of the most exciting World Cup games, fiction-wise, that I've seen in a first round. Thoughts, feelings, who's who's happy, who's angry, who's what's the overall vibe?

SPEAKER_03

I'm happy, man. Like, I was going into this World Cup being like 48 teams is one of the biggest mistakes I've ever seen in my life. And I have to say that these teams that I thought were gonna get rolled over. I mean, one team really got rolled over, but the teams that I thought that were gonna get really rolled over have held up crazy. I thought it was gonna be six, seven, multiple games, but here we are, man. Like Spain can't score against one of these teams. Bad. It's not bad.

SPEAKER_01

That's embarrassing still. You know what it feels like? It feels like the premification of world football. And what I mean by that is you know how in the Prem it's hard to win games because teams set up very defensively strong, they transition quick through the midfield, they attack wide quickly. That's what it feels like a lot of those weaker teams are able to do, and they're able to exploit the better teams, um, or or make the better teams a lot scared. And it's been really impressive to see like across the board teams you think, okay, like Spain, they they got they got iced out, and and you could see that. Um, even Senegal, they could have, you know, that could have been a better game. Obviously, France adjusted. It's it's impressive, and I've I've really enjoyed watching these games because man, spin. It's yeah, it's been amazing to see. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

The thing I like about World Cup and tournament football is like there's no um, there's no reason to like try things, right? Like it's a win at all costs. These dudes are saying, okay, these are our best players, give the ball to the best players and let them do their work. We are happy to be supplementary players as long as we go as far as possible in this tournament. And what we're seeing so far is most, except for one parasite, most of the stars are holding up big time.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I can go out on a limb, I reckon, and say that this is my best ever World Cup watching experience that I've ever had. And I think maybe 2014 watching that World Cup, the level was really good, and maybe 2022. But this one for me, one match day in, and this is the most excitement enjoyment that I've felt. I always love the group stage because it's games every single day, but this is just like like today, Uzbekistan versus Colombia, top, top, top game. It was end to end, both teams were deadly, it was dangerous, the good players were good, players that you'd never seen before, the setups, the way that they could counter for me, it was an unbelievable game, and that's Uzbekistan versus Colombia. Hamez is still playing.

SPEAKER_03

That's crazy, yeah. Yeah, I and I said to Jeremy, like I was saying that like these teams, New Zealand, who did New Zealand play again? Uh 2-2 draw with yeah, two-all drawing one of the best games of the whole tournament. You look at the fixture list of the of the games that come out round one, and you say, I'm gonna watch this game, I'm gonna watch this game, I'm gonna watch this game. Probably quite low on your list is New Zealand, Iran. And fucking hell. End-to-end, high-paced goals. Like, could be the game of the tournament so far, potentially, or it's definitely up there for sure.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, but like it's who's who's usually stopping for Sweden Tunisia, but the game was unbelievable. Like everything is just end-to-end. Both teams want to score, both teams can defend, both teams have mistakes in them, both teams are set up. Like nowadays, defensive teams are still set up in a way that, like MJ was saying, they're dangerous enough to go on the counter the other way and score. And against the exactly, and against the big teams, it's so possible to break them. Even Germany conceded to Kurusau, they made it one-all.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Like the big the big teams can can concede against these lesser teams because the lesser teams have pace, they got players who can go 1v1, and they have people who can score. So every game is actually engaging and entertaining. We'll now go over to our Zim and Sudan correspondence. They haven't really had much to say. Bud, feelings, feelings about the World Cup. Bud, if you have the prediction, load up on the opposite of the prediction, and you will and you will make money.

SPEAKER_06

Listen, it's it's for me. This is this was the first round. You know, you got to see a bit here and there, excitement, teams running off adrenaline. Now, you're gonna see the real show these next couple of games, this round two and three. You're gonna see people like Ronaldo coming to life. You're gonna see you're gonna see players like Depey scoring three to go top goal scorer. You're gonna see a lot of things. So for me, but I said two episodes ago, it's not dead yet. It's not dead. Yep. The plant is still there, it's just going slow. I said Ronaldo is gonna do good in the workout. I didn't say top goal scorer, I said the pie, maybe. I don't know if I actually said the pie. He did.

SPEAKER_07

Uh you said the pie's gonna be top scoring, and then I said, but he's not even gonna start, and you said you don't need to start to score.

SPEAKER_06

Well, look, so see, like that's why you need match day one. Like, Messi, he didn't score match day one in in thing and got goal. Who got golden who got gold on boot last and Bappa didn't score match day one last time?

SPEAKER_07

The guy you said uh that's a guess. He did score, it was against Australia.

SPEAKER_06

That wasn't match day one, yeah. That was match day two.

SPEAKER_07

No, it was match day one, and he scored against Australia header.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, yeah, he did. That was poor defending. But like I was saying, yes, we saw a little bit of you know, upsets, Spain not winning, but that just comes with you know the first game. Everyone's excited, everyone wants to show what they got. Then team, the big teams are gonna be like, right, let's kick on from now on in. You're gonna see a lot more of these results that that should have been in round one. All right, a bunch of nothing. And Ronaldo scoring.

SPEAKER_08

A bunch of nothing was um but feelings. In in all honesty, um, real talk. Um all the big teams haven't really showed up, which has been probably where the floor has risen. Like Spain was not that great, even though France won 3-1, they weren't really that good in the first half, like they were pretty poor in the first half. You know, they fixed things at half time. So um that kind of changed that result and changed that narrative.

SPEAKER_07

Brazil sorry, Dino, they fixed things with a certain guy. When a certain guy said the other guy came off same time when they fixed things.

SPEAKER_06

He's tied, he won championship, he went the whole week.

SPEAKER_08

Um, Brazil, again, we watched that game and we all said they were disappointing. Argentina played Algeria, but it was a what we expect of a not a carry job, but like Messi scored three goals or four goals when was disallowed. Yeah, and then we then like England played the I guess the biggest fixture I would probably say would be England versus Croatia. They were like the top, the highest ranked teams, and that had six goals in it. Did both teams really turn up? I don't think so. I thought that the um the defending was a bit average, to be honest, if I'm being honest, from both teams. Um, so have the big teams really turned up, they're probably off to a slow start and they can afford a slow start because again, if you one win and maybe a draw puts you in contention to go through. So Yamal didn't start, which proves that like they weren't really taking that game too too seriously. I know he's been injured, but like he came off the bench, so he's obviously fit enough to at least play. Um, and then obviously the smaller teams, which are probably playing off more adrenaline, more excitement, um, and have more of an underdog mentality, they kind of just went out there and left it out, left it out there. So they got some some key results. Will that continue? Hope so. Overall, it's been yeah, it's been a vibe, it's been fun, and the time zone has been wicked. That's like the biggest kind of thing for me personally, is that like you can wake up 5 a.m., 8 a.m. 10am, 2 p.m., and you're watching games like in daylight. Whereas for the past what six World Cups, yeah, yeah, maybe because I it's been like the other way around where you've had to watch games at nighttime and stuff. So that's been a bit of a difference, even though like I'm still tired as they're like, still like I watched the Portugal game and now I was like, I regret that. Yeah, I skipped it. But yeah, apart from now, I think it's been a good start. I was I thought like once the game started, I was like, yep, it's just gonna be a vibe again. Like, obviously, going into it, we were saying that, like, okay, cool, no one's really excited. Like, Jeremy, you were saying no one's really excited, doesn't feel like the World Cup's around the corner. But again, it's just like the games they were playing, it's in but it's like in that gray area between season ending, they're playing warm-up games, they're not really going all out. Now, stadiums are full, we're worried about stadiums being full, stadiums are full. The political element of this World Cup has kind of subsided in a way. Like, obviously, there's like there's one key team that's been told to leave the country here and there, which is still a big issue, but it's not really a talking point. I'm not really heard as much around it, which I always thought was gonna happen because the football has started, so now that's become the main story. And like, I've got some friends that are over there, and they're saying, like, yeah, the local crowds are actually um, the locals are actually enjoying it, loving the environment. Scotland's drank Boston Dry, pause. Um, yeah, so it's it's just the vibe at the minute.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, okay, perfect.

SPEAKER_01

What yeah, I was just I was just gonna speak on um Denier's point about the big teams not turning up. Sorry.

SPEAKER_07

Are you laughable, bro? I said Scotland drink Boston dry and then said pause because he knows of Boston, that's why.

SPEAKER_01

Just in case he was and he knows of Scotland below on my screen. But I think I think to that point, it feels like whilst I do agree, I do think a lot of the big teams are being found out that you actually can't afford to play slow, casual football because you won't win the game, you know, you won't win the game, and that's what we saw with Portugal, that's what we saw with Spain, that's what we saw with Brazil, England, Brazil, France in the first half. I think I think honestly, from watching the games, there's probably a risk that these bigger teams are gonna there's gonna be upsets or cupsets. Honestly, I can see it because even if you look at the Australia game, that was a game where Turkey had you know big favor. People said this team's serious, da da da. We played them the same. We saw them move the ball very slowly, casual, didn't create much. We transitioned quickly in behind goal, transition quickly, goal. So I think this is the World Cup where potentially a lot of these big guys will get knocked out, not not so much early, but in rounds where people don't expect, which is great. Yeah, I'm here for it.

SPEAKER_07

Absolutely, yeah. I'm here for it as well. I feel like most of the games I was saying to Samuel today or yesterday, if you were genuinely sitting down and and predicting every result, I think you'd be at less than 50% success rate. Oh, naturally, really. It's it's genuinely a struggle. Even times where I've just looked being like, Oh, I think this will happen, I think this will happen. No, no, no, nothing I've thought has come true. Like, obviously, I've won hella multis and shit. Like, I can predict something, but all in all, results, like just straight team results. No, I I haven't been able to predict half. So I think you're right.

SPEAKER_06

Cards, cards, cards, corners 2.5 target exactly that that kind of shit.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, the important stuff I've been able to get, but let's go into that because we've said some of the underdogs have been standing out, some some people have impressed us. Who has stood out? It could be teams, it could be players, it could be individuals, it could be fans, it could be shots of people in the crowd, bud, it could be anything. What have been the standouts so far, match day one?

SPEAKER_03

Germany, yeah. I was gonna say, I'll piggyback off what MJ and Denai were saying. Like, one of my I got two, but one of mine is Germany like actually taking it seriously, being like, okay, we need to start fast and we need to not fuck around because like we're here to win a tournament, we're here to show that we're serious, and you know, we're seeing the like MJ said, the big team starting slow. They're like, nah, we're we're not doing that. We're scoring seven, and we're gonna we're gonna move forward in this tournament as quickly as possible because these these small nations are good, man, and they play good football, and they've got fucking good players, like crazy good players. So Germany are a one to watch for sure.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, they pulled up in BMW, not Volks. Just searched up premium German cars.

SPEAKER_07

Perfect.

SPEAKER_06

Thank you.

SPEAKER_07

And yours was Germany as well, buddy.

SPEAKER_08

I'm pretty sure.

SPEAKER_04

What does that have to do with what I'm why are you guys beefing? What about Samuel? I said this the other day. I'm here for it. Why are they beefing, MJ? I don't know.

SPEAKER_06

It's because he thinks I'm Uber everywhere. But Tom's point. Um that team looks like it has a bench as well. I think some of these starting teams are. I've struggled to see who they can bring on off the bench because they've put everyone on. Um, but Germany stands out in that like area in terms of like they can kind of do a like for like up front. Even the the guys that uh I would say the mid-tier players on that team, they've stood out as well. My guy Nemcha goal assist, fucking cracker goal. He's nice a goal, crack. Oh man, I'm telling you, if Enzo fucking leaves, bring this guy in. I don't give a fuck. Yeah, I mean he's enough.

SPEAKER_07

If he doesn't leave, uh who cares? Yeah, bring him in. Bring him in. Fuck it.

SPEAKER_01

Uh MJ, stand out. I have two, but I actually want to talk about two shall only from the perspective of I was actually incredibly impressed with the way he responded in second half. Because I think that's a game where you look at two all, the old English manager K is under pressure. He he's under immense pressure. He trusts Bellingham, he trusts his squad, he changes a lot of things, and then they get the result. I I found that so impressive because I think we're used to England going into defense mode when things start to fall apart. Let's make some defensive changes. They didn't do that, they went at the game. Um, and I think in one of the in the press they he said, you know, if we lose, let's lose doing our thing, playing our way. And I think that's the shift that England needed, and that bravery that England needed, which is potentially gonna change my opinion of them probably being underwhelming to okay, this this could be a serious team, plus their depth. We saw that their bench came on, made a change, goal assist. Yeah, it was it was really impressive because it it looked like the typical England football, but then yeah, that second half where I was like, Okay, wow, that's good. But I think my main team is USA. I hadn't I thought this team was gonna be trash, but yeah, the way they played and how effortlessly easy they made it look. Wow, but yeah, USA unbelievable.

SPEAKER_06

We'll tuck them in, don't worry.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Facts.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, facts.

SPEAKER_07

Uh five five back versus five back.

SPEAKER_06

It's gonna be crazy for four.

SPEAKER_07

I'll I'll pick you back off, MJs, and and yeah, England stand out for me. I did obviously predict them to win the World Cup, but I think seeing the depth in real life used in a game is completely different to just reading their squad and trying to figure out who starts versus who's gonna play minutes, blah blah blah blah blah. Because they always have a good squad. Exactly. But if you actually compare it to players who can make a difference, 60th minute, 50th minute, especially when they're playing in the heat, especially after such a season where they've played 60 odd games. You look at that England team in comparison to uh Brazil, who were 1-0 with Morocco and they brought on Fabinho, England go, yeah, Rashford, Saka, warm-up. That they didn't SA didn't even touch the field. Rogers came on, no other striker came on. They still had Watkins and Ivan Tony, Guerhe came on, Jed Spence came on, Reese went into the six. They have options all over the pitch, and and the actual quality is so much higher. I'd say France, England are up here, and every other team, squad depth wise, are levels below.

SPEAKER_03

And I think Tuschelblack, he knows now he's got different ways of playing. Like, if you want to look at Saka and Rashford as two wingers, they're completely different to Anthony Gordon and Mataweki, for instance, who started today. Like, get get a good start in a tournament, play direct, you know, see what you can do with that, and then bring the technicians on after that, and it it works perfectly. It was insane.

SPEAKER_01

That's the best I've seen England play in terms of response. Yeah, the way they take took the game that I've seen in uh quite a while. And I that's what I think impressed me the most. Because I think we're used to seeing a pretty oh, we're bougie, we're England, we've got all these players, let's let's take it easy. And then they struggle. They were like, nah, we're going direct, um, we're gonna break through the lines quickly. That's how we're gonna win the game. And they finally just played to win instead of played off vibes and we're prem, we're the prem, you know. It was what's it called? I'll I'll jump in on there.

SPEAKER_08

Um Harry Kane. This is probably the first tournament that I've seen him be like one super informed, but two not injured. Like last World Cup, he was injured and he was wasn't great. Nobody for him to start. Yeah, no, and this time he's probably the best or a top two number nines, him and Mbappe are probably top two number nines in the world. He's playing this like quarterback robust. I remember back in the day, I used to we used to laugh at him being like he's playing centre defensive midfield at Tottenham. Yeah, and he's like weirdly mastered this role, and obviously having the having Nonni and Gordon today, who can just who are direct. He's just you saw Noni look like acres of space. Yeah, the end product wasn't there, but at least the ball was going to him, they were getting chances in. So for me, this standout was is probably Harry Kane. As like I always worry about how his game's gonna transition to the three lions because he he's playing this weird position, and you've got so many other egos and superstars in the in the team. Whereas True Shall's kind of built the team around making sure he is gonna be the guy, even though Dwight wanted to be as well. Yeah, so I think that's that's what's impressed me at the minute. I think it's a long time you go.

SPEAKER_07

No, I was gonna say there's a guy on the panel right now who thinks that this Harry Kane version is a gimmick, and it's it's it's not it's not actually it's not actually that productive, he reckons. What? Go on, no, no, no. It was it was during the game in the first half where he was twice in a row no no no it was twice in a row where he dropped in and sprayed two of the worst long balls that I've ever seen. And I was going, there is no reason why that is necessary when they have midfielders who are extremely capable, but but I want to add he came up with his goals. Yeah, save yourself. The way that England played for Harry Kane, I think is the way that you win in big tournaments. You play for your best players and you suit the whole team around your best players, and that's how you win. Because if you look at all the performers, that's this is what my standout was gonna be at at this World Cup so far. If you look at all the teams that won, and you every single one of them, their best player or their big player stood up. And for me, that's that's how you win in these tournaments because you look at Argentina, Messi's 30. They I saw something, he's like he turns 39 in 10 days. Yeah, every single he walked, I reckon, for 75 minutes of facts being on, or being on for 78 minutes, but he ran for the three minutes just in those times where he runs, he gets the ball, and you know he can just do anything he wants when he gets the ball, and Argentina Messi wins them that game, and then you look at even Brazil were shit, but Vinitius, he's the only reason they get back into that game because he he steps up, he can do something. Harry Kane and Bellingham, Rice as well, was pretty good. Harry Kane and Bellingham say Elliot Anderson as well, they but Rice and Bellingham they stand up and they Harry Kane scores two, Bellingham scores his goal, takes it well, and and you're like, if a team is gonna win, you have to play suited to your best players. And Bappe for France in the second half, uh Haaland scores two, they win. Luis Diaz, Columbia. Luis Diaz for Colombia. It's just you play if your best player performs, it's a reason Portugal didn't win, the reason Spain didn't win is because you need because every team is good, every team has good players, every team has a good setup, and defenses are hard to break down. But the one person who can break down a defense is the best player, and it's always like that. So if you have the person who can who can score and who in moments are good, that's how you win big games. And for me, like I said, if I was Brazil, uh it sounds stupid, but bring in Neymar because I think if you have certain people who have quality that they can do things that other people can't do, that's how you win games. Otherwise, you're gonna lose to to other good teams who are just as good as you. The only way to beat them is having players who are like one player who's better. Facts with the opposite reaction. I don't know if you guys were watching that gakpo performance. Horror. Horror terrible, horror, and that was only that no, but they only it looked like their only mode of attack was let's go out to Gakpo, see what happens, cut in the same thing every time. Cut in, let me see if I can shoot didn't work, didn't work. Japan were in the game the whole time. You look at Spain, Ferran Torres, poor, poor, poor. No touch, 30 minutes, no touch. And this is why I was saying we were having that conversation about Spain, and I said, We're like Spain, are the they're a good team and they're one of the favorites, but you take your mall out of the Spain team, and where where's the X factor?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, even um games, yeah. Because if you look at the Euros, they were so good because they transitioned quickly to the wingers, which they hadn't had, which is why they were stagnant. And look at what happened, they swept the Euros. Now they don't have that. Look at what happens.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, it's just and at the end of the day, midfielders can be good and control the game, but I think in tournaments, midfielders don't win you the game. As much as I love good midfield, because you look at Holland, all three midfielders, exceptional players, all three, not all three, but Diong and Gravenberch both had good performances, but they still don't win you the game. Jiao Neves, Vertinha, Bruno still don't win you the game. It it's a good attacker. Pedry Rodri. See, it's they're great midfielders, but they don't win you the game at the end of the day. In a big tournament, the player that's going to win you the game is is going to be an attacker who can score, who can create something out of nothing. And if you don't have that, then I cannot see that team winning. Yeah. Yeah, I hear it. I hear it. Anybody else got any more standouts before we go to the opposite? Yeah, Diamond Day. That's it though. DMA, yeah. Class. And that's again another example of give your best players the ball and just let I think tournament football is treat it like MBA, treat it like there's five players on the on the field. And when your good player's hot, when he's got the ball, give like when he's feeling himself, give him the fucking ball. And and make runs, create space for others, but let this guy do what he needs to do. That's what that's what I think. And that's why he would.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, it was Didier drops.

SPEAKER_02

Fuck.

SPEAKER_07

Do you see his chest control? Yeah, bro. Every single time. I didn't earn that shows the level of the Premier League because that guy was playing. I'm telling you, he looked like Ibrah. Everything, chest down, body, drop, first touch perfect every single time. I was thinking, who is this guy?

SPEAKER_03

He looked comfy as well.

SPEAKER_07

Damn, it was good. Bad. Uh, let's go. Disappointments, flops. Because there was a lot. Equally, for how many um standouts there were, I would say there's an equal amount of flops. Where are we going tonight?

SPEAKER_08

Portugal. You know what I watched. Watching that game was a bit. I can tell how frustrated Bruno Fernandez was. He was so frustrated because nobody was making runs for him. He had Neto. One forward run. No forward runs. No forward. Neto was just hiding behind a defender. Um Bruno Um Bernardo Silva was playing like a cam on the wing, obviously, because you know that's how he's just he's a great player. You're not gonna get you're not gonna get forward runs in behind, which is what Bruno kind of thrives on. He wants to play that risky pass, he wants to play that progressive ball. And you've got Ronaldo who's waiting for the perfect pass, but it has to come inside the box. So I could just see how frustrated he was. Obviously, he's got Vitinha and um Neves behind him, and they're just recycling the ball and they score early. But just him personally, even though he wasn't the flop, Portugal's like attack as a whole for me is a flop. Um, and I don't like like there's zero X Factor.

SPEAKER_03

They looked a lot better when their direct wingers came on, though.

SPEAKER_07

Exactly. Balance matters, just play a front three, a mobile front three of Liao Concesao and and Goncarlo Ramos, and they will score so many more goals because it's it's the same. Imagine if England played with Palmer, Foden, and Kane up front. They're gonna not be able to create they're just not direct enough. So you need runs in behind. They didn't make one run in behind. Yeah, they didn't make one run in behind for for for Bruno for the other midfielders that can pick out passes. Yeah, and that's the deal. It wasn't even like Congo needed to play in a deep block because they weren't stepping up high. Because they knew what's gonna happen. You're gonna play a ball over the top of who? We're big, strong fucking African defenders. We're gonna we're gonna get to the ball.

SPEAKER_02

We're gonna get to the ball every time.

SPEAKER_03

MJ's dream came true. After that performance, I cried.

SPEAKER_08

Finally, yeah, no. I just think that Portugal, that Portugal attack absolutely stunk, and I don't know if it gets better. I don't know if it gets better, and that's a disappointment.

SPEAKER_03

But uh one big decision needs to get made.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah, we yeah, we've discussed that. But even then, like Pedro Neto is not good enough to be playing to start.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, but he can run fast. He's good enough to start, but he's not good enough to be relied upon to do shit.

SPEAKER_08

He makes he's good at running, but he's he's not dynamic enough. He's good at like he's physically good at like running, like he's uh he's a good runner in terms of just run. But in terms of actually making dynamic runs off the ball, that he's peeling off shoulders, or he's coming checking in, checking out.

SPEAKER_06

Zero is terrible, zero position, yeah, zero ability. He doesn't have IQ. I've watched him for a whole two seasons.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's what I'm saying, man. These these tournament players are different. You want Liao in a tournament game a hundred times out of a hundred over Pedro Neto for sure. He might give you a three, doesn't matter, but he's gonna win the next game. He might score a double and win you the game. It does it's just I'd rather have that, I'd rather have a three and an eight than two sixes and have nothing else created.

SPEAKER_07

I agree. I couldn't agree more, bud. Any disappointments, flops? Or howlers? Howless, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Go on. This is this is an unpopular opinion. I don't know if you guys are all gonna agree on it, but a lot of people have been saying it's good. I've been saying this is bad. For me, these water breaks. Yeah, shit, yeah, who's been saying that? I think this is I a lot of people have been saying this is good for I guess the no, like the the underdogs, because it gives them a little bit more time to you know rejuvenate and go again. So it's like we're used to 45 minutes, is probably why some of these bigger teams expected to wear out a team by come half time, there's a goal, or even by the 90th, 80th minute, there's a goal there. So I think yes, it's a benefit to some teams, but I think it's just three minutes for for starters is way too long. And then what it does, it just kills momentum. If a team was up, it just takes away an advantage for them. They've built it up from minute zero to whatever it is, 20 or whatever, and then you reach it. And then it's just has to, yeah, and it's just it's just kills momentum, and then I'm you know that first one, the Mexico game one. Yeah, I thought it was half time, so I'm like, all right, let me start doing other things. And I hear because I had my laptop on, I hear the whistle going back on, and I'm like, what the hell's going on here? It's not even half time. Yeah, yeah. So to me, yeah, it's it's no good.

SPEAKER_07

If the heat conditions are shit, if the heat conditions are too hot, I hear it. But in in so many of the games, it's just been normal weather. So it's clear, yeah. It's clear.

SPEAKER_03

One of the stadiums had air conditioning. No, I'm not saying it's clear as an advantage. And they had a drink break.

SPEAKER_08

I think it's it for me, it has to be a game-by-game basis. Agreed. And it has to be because like um SoFi Stadium, air conditioned, Dallas, indoors air conditioned, Miami is super hot. So I understand Miami. I understand Boston. Fox Barrel could be super hot because it's outside. I understand Kansas. I understand New York, Seattle, air conditioned, BC and Vancouver, air conditioned. So there's so many air-conditioned stadiums. Maybe in South America, you might need it. I don't know, South America, in uh Mexico, you might need it, but I don't know what the temperature is like over there. In Toronto, BM BMO stadium. It's in Fahrenheit. You don't need it. So I think be quiet, bro. Um, there's probably like four stadiums that really need it, and it should be game to game, like a game by game basis. Yeah, that's what uh yeah, yeah, because it's it gets a bit ridiculous. Like it's like when you watch preseason and they go out to America for or they go out to here for preseason, they're having water breaks because it's actually literally 35 degrees, 40 degrees. I understand now. But if it's literally like 20 degrees and you've got you're inside, like some of these players are playing in this like cool, warmer, like cooler conditions than they do in their own leagues.

SPEAKER_06

I haven't seen anyone with cauliflower mouth either. So I don't know why they decided this is like a thing, cauliflower mouth.

SPEAKER_07

How do people know what that is? What the fuck is cauliflower mouth? Yeah, yeah, absolutely. It's the players that wearing long sleeve as well. It changes the condition of the sport. Like it's footballers should be fit enough and they should be doing conditioning for four or five minute halves. Like it cannot be a 23 minutes. What's the difference between us then? Exactly. It cannot be a 23-minute thing. You get a break. They and and they're they're doing full tactical talks during the break. It's not even like that shouldn't be allowed. They have screens up, they have screens up doing tactics. How is that allowed? It's just a timeout. The next thing will be they add timeouts and shit. Like it, I feel like it's ridiculous. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

And it's a coincidence that happens in the American.

SPEAKER_08

There's a rule because now if you if a player goes uninjured, you can't go to the bench, like what most teams do as like a tactical timeout. Is there a way in which they could like is it that players have to stay onto the pitch, not come to the side of night, and then like water ball waterboards, run out of water? Yeah, I think that's what it should be. And the coaches have to stay seating in the dugout, yeah. Maybe, yeah. I don't know. It's it's yeah, I'm hoping it happens now and it's it's done. It doesn't like actually like transition into normal football. Um, but yeah, no, I agree with you, but it's a bit of a floor.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, on the flip side, the only devil's advocate I would play is maybe it could prevent some injuries potentially for a three-minute break. But in saying that, I don't know how much of these six minutes in 26-man squad broke. Come on.

SPEAKER_07

I saw this, I saw this American guy speaking about how it was more from like a conversational standpoint of like how football, like he did he didn't watch football and he's just watching the World Cup. And he was like drawing it back to basketball, being like, why don't they want their the best players to be on the pitch and fit for as long as possible? So why don't they introduce interchange instead of subs? Like he was saying, and I was like, it's a good point. Ideally, for the most entertaining spectacle, you want the best players out there the whole time or for as long as possible. So does introducing interchange instead of subs make that more entertaining because you can have the best players out there more?

SPEAKER_03

I don't know if it works for the type of um sport and like physical exertion it is. Like we've all been on the bench and or we've played the reserves, and then they ask you to sit on the bench for the first team and you're fucked. Like when you warm down, your body's done. Like, imagine Messi coming off in the 30th minute, having to come back on 15 minutes later, and he's like 38.

SPEAKER_07

No way. Yeah, imagine you guys watch that Czech Republic game, Chechia game. That guy who was like six foot eight or whatever came on. Imagine every time they got a corner, they just brought this guy on, they interchanged him corner. It would take it would drag on for so long. These guys would have they would start bringing like six foot nine guys just to come on for the corner as soon as the ball goes out, come back up, go back on. It's like it's like NBA when they bring somebody on when they have a to rebound. It's essentially the only sport that doesn't have some sort of interchange. Like, doesn't every top sport work with interchange?

SPEAKER_08

There's a way to do it, like Tom, like we've all played indoor or most of you have, I presume. Um and like yeah, you're coming on and off in that. Um that but obviously that's a different, it's a whole different sport, it's small side of games. So that's it, yeah. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Then obviously, just think you've got to bring like your right winger off, and it's on the other side of the field.

SPEAKER_08

But you do it like what's it called? Um, if you were to do it, you'd have to do it like hockey, um, Jeremy, where it's a it's a roll-in sub where you run off. Like A. So there's no, yeah, you don't. I'm not sure if you're yeah, yeah, yeah. So you run off as the game is playing, so it's up to you to do that subject. Same as NRL.

SPEAKER_07

But you can't do it. Yeah, we have an amount of card times you can interchange, but it's yeah, it's interesting.

SPEAKER_03

But they just go, like they come off and they go. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

But they go and they tap them on the field and swap.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah, no, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_07

The guy comes.

SPEAKER_06

He comes to the thing and you give him a card.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, but don't they run on before the other person comes off?

SPEAKER_06

No. You get fa you get penalized for that.

SPEAKER_07

But yeah, the guy was the guy was more approaching it from like a he didn't say they should do it. He was saying like why he was pretty much asking why don't they do it.

SPEAKER_06

It's because if that happens, Ronaldo's playing the 65, and people are already sick of him now. Someone should have just answered that shit right there. Yeah, yeah, fair enough. That's fine.

SPEAKER_07

Uh guys, let's go to um talking points or anything you noticed in game. This doesn't have to be standouts, this doesn't have to be flops, this can just be something you notice, could be tactical, could be yes, player specific, but go on.

SPEAKER_06

Yep, I got one. Listen, I'm all for this messy fairy tale, but he should have got a red card. And maybe I I can sit here and and and listen to people defending him, but if it's another player from another country that doesn't have a a narrative like this, I think the convo of it would be a lot louder. That and I got another one. This whole pausing for penalties, like that cane one, yeah, it's rubbish.

SPEAKER_08

I can't stand that. I don't blame the keeper. Yeah, some players. I don't blame the keeper at all.

SPEAKER_07

No, I can't stand it, dude. Not everybody needs to do it. If you don't have the stutter in your locker, you don't have to do it. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. But I feel like name oh, you're like hazard, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

No, but that wasn't fluid, bro. You saw it, he like stopped.

SPEAKER_07

So you guys don't even came in to do he's one of the best penalty takers, probably ever, right? Ever. Yeah. He'd been doing the stutter run-up. You don't think it's because he knows that it helps him, it's helpful. And one, if the keepers have so much access to studying where you go, they can look at every place you've ever taken a pen, how likely you are to do it. You don't have to give yourself some edge of just like, oh yeah, I'm just gonna go this way.

SPEAKER_08

But you are the edge, you have the ball, you can pick where you go left, right, or center. You have the advantage, they have the disadvantage. I think this I remember when this first came into the game, and I think it was actually Ronaldo who first did it. If I'm maybe I'm wrong, he did this starter step um the year when it first came, but in this team. He popularized it alright. That's what I mean. He popularized it. I just I personally it looks good when you score, but if you kick it the same way the goalkeeper goes, it's a chip pen. And it's not because it's it's a it's it's not because you it's not because you have it's not because you have picked away and gone that way and just trusted yourself and backed yourself. It's because you've tried to outwit the keeper and you adding like a hurdle to what it already is, should be a simple action, in my opinion. I just think yeah, I designed incredible. No, some people are incredible. I'm not saying it's not, I'm just saying that like if I if there was a rule of thumb to make it because it's so unfair for the goalkeepers now. It's like it's kind of the foot has to be on the line, like that cane, England scoring and can get in a retake. To me, it's BS, to be honest. Like facts. Why? It's I mean it's the rule, it's the rule though. No, it's the it's the rule, but you are putting the goalkeeper at more of a disadvantage by implementing this, allowing this technique.

SPEAKER_07

The person shooting should have the big advantage because they gave Alan the boss.

SPEAKER_08

You already, yeah, you already have an advantage, is what I'm saying. You have the ball, you can go left, right, or center. Like you can you have the ball, you decide where that ball goes. You're adding in an incredible level. So it's it's millimeters, this one. He's not good at it. People are good at it. I understand people are great at it. And if it gives you more of an advantage, like Ivan Tony, um, he's cerebral of penalties, if it gives you more of an advantage, great. But I'm saying is it's such a like there's there's no win-win for the goalkeeper. It's it's it's lose-lose.

SPEAKER_07

Why the fuck do we care about the goalkeeper? The advantage should be with the team that's got the pen, they got fouled in the box. They already have the ball, though. They already have the ball. More often than not, result in a goal. Yes, because we're gonna play a penalty.

SPEAKER_08

But by adding the starter step, for example, right, as I missed in the Champions League final. Um, Kane missed, for example, Kane missed today, then a second pen, he took it normally and scored, and it was more like it was more decisive. It was more decisive, right? Why can't we just remove that hurdle? Like you we're adding in another complexity to something that should be a bit simpler where you already have the advantage. But then it's like saying, it's like saying this, I want to, it's like saying I'm gonna run the hundred meters quick, and then oh, I'm gonna run back onto the last 10 meters. Like you're adding in another hurdle to something that shouldn't be that difficult. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

I think it's like similar to like saying to basketball players, and you're not allowed a free throw routine. Exactly. I agree.

SPEAKER_08

But no, I think that's completely because the the action itself, like you still have a you're still throwing the ball in the same action. Here you're yeah, you know, you're you're playing the the play starts when you start running to the ball.

SPEAKER_03

It's not when you Yeah, but but once your foot's planted, the action is kicking the ball. The same. Yeah, you can do whatever you want before that.

SPEAKER_07

Because it's like uh at the routine as well. Exactly. You can't it's not routine. The reason they added the variation.

SPEAKER_06

So why didn't you do it the second time?

SPEAKER_07

What do you mean? Because obviously he got he got spooked out because he he he f'd the first one. But what I'm saying is they added that rule in which you had to keep going forward, you couldn't stutter stop, which is I agree absolutely with you, you shouldn't be able to do that. But they already they already overcame that by adding the rule that you have to keep going with forward momentum, you can't stop in place, you have to like you can slow down, but you can't stop and okay. So why that's what it is. How are you gonna implement a rule where someone could just walk up really, really slow to the ball? How do you how do you stop that from happening?

SPEAKER_08

No, but that's different to someone walking up really slow and someone running, slowing down, and then accelerating again. I think we're gonna do that. We we this never used to happen. Let's just go back to what we used to do.

SPEAKER_07

But it wasn't a rule, people just didn't do it.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, but yeah. So why don't we just go back to that? Like I'm just I'm just saying that adding in this stutter step is another complexity to something that you already have an advantage for, and then the fact that now goalkeepers can't move at all until the ball's kicked really is just you're putting them more at a disadvantage. Like, I don't really, really care. I'm not gonna die on this hill. I'm just saying that. Yeah, if if if my if I'm a coach and my striker misses because they do a stutter step, I'm going off at you. But if you if you miss because you've just picked a side and you haven't been tried to be too cute, um, it's too cute.

SPEAKER_07

No, that's fair. Yeah, but it is being too cute. I don't I disagree because a stutter, sometimes a stutter helps your like the way that you take the penalty, it helps in your routine. So it's like telling an NBA player before they do the routine, you know when Wemby does this shit, throws the ball. It's so different, throws the ball. But it's a routine, it's the same. If you take penalties all the time, you need a certain routine. That's why every person who takes penalties. So Samuel takes penalties the same way every time. Sam Bruno, yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Just one second. Your Wemby throwing the ball up and doing is the bit before he starts to run initially. Yeah, that's a cane.

SPEAKER_06

You don't run on Cain, you don't run on a shop or something before he actually took the penalty.

SPEAKER_07

Striking the ball is what changes the same. The same with the free throw. You strike the ball the same way.

SPEAKER_08

Do a free throw, you should no the action like doing the strike the ball. No, Samuel, but the action of you getting to strike the ball doesn't begin when you strike the ball, it begins when you start running up.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

So do you believe that one-step penalties should be taken away?

SPEAKER_08

Like they shouldn't be able to do one step. You can do one step penalties because you're close enough to the ball. You're close enough to the ball, you can do one step. I'm saying is once you start like the whole start, it's two different movements, bro. It's two different movements. It's it's a run, you decelerate, you do steps, then you accelerate again, or you jump. That's three different movements in a run-up. The goalkeeper now has to be prepared for the first movement when you run up, the second movement when you stutter, and the third movement where you try to slot it.

SPEAKER_07

I don't know why you're defending why you're looking out for the goalkeeper.

SPEAKER_03

So do keepers then have to stay still on the line, then?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, so keepers can't do anything.

SPEAKER_03

They have to keep their own.

SPEAKER_07

Exactly. What's the what's the keepers? Every player is just trying to get an edge. Every player's just trying to get an edge. Keepers can tap the fucking bar, do this, do that, actually. Well, they can they can round the whole goal. But they can move around. They're allowed to move around while you're okay.

SPEAKER_06

My thing, my thing is if there's just centimeters involved in it, like it wasn't so blatant, like that that keeper that used to just come up all the way. It's the rule. I'm saying if there's just centimeters in it, like and and and it and it's it's a bad penny, it should just be benefit of the doubt. You missed because you've done a shit run up, and this is where you get for it. That's it. But if they do a normal run-up, then what? Why why should they have to do a retake if there's like two centimeters in it? What people do. That's like saying, Why are you calling offside? No, stop doing stop doing um these are two different points. Stop doing uh uh similarities, just uh he's gone. Yeah, he hated that so much.

SPEAKER_01

MJ, what are your thoughts? Um, I I think it comes at the risk. Um, I feel like those starter steps, you can do it if you want, but I think the the negative reaction is valid if you miss. Like, for example, Ezre. If Ezre did a normal penalty and missed, people would be like, he missed. But because he did a he tried to be cute, like you said, and he missed the way he did, the response is valid. I'm not saying do it or don't do it. I just think when you do that kind of stuff, to to be cute or to gain more of an advantage and it doesn't work, then the reaction, the negative reaction or a more negative reaction is completely valid.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I I agree with that. If that's what we're saying, the the reaction is valid, cool. But should it be allowed or shouldn't it be allowed? I uh can't agree that it shouldn't be allowed. But if you're saying I'm gonna criticize you more because you miss, uh cool. Yeah, yeah. But I think that's a good that's a good point. Stutter step pens. I feel as though only the certain amount of players, and it's a small percentage of players, do it anyway. And those are the ones who probably feel like they take penalties so much that they need something to change something, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you know, you take you take 20 penalties, then they study you, then you have to change something.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah. But they got everything. Anyone else have a talking point they want to go to? Yeah, Isak Yokoras. Oh yeah, go on. Lisa. Isak Yokoras, bro. Like I said, you put your best players, you you play to your best players, and and they'll take you home, they'll win you games. Is the funniest strike duo because the way that the way that they both should be, they aren't. The way that they both should be playing, they they don't play to that. The the isak and yokor is that we saw last season, in in your head, that would be an amazing strike duo. But then when you watch the the Sweden game and realize Isak don't really move the way that he used to move, Yokoras, he got no touch, he also don't move the way that you thought he could move, and then yet they both score. Isak sets up Yokoras, Yokures sets up Isak and they win the game. It's it's one of the and Graham Potter's the coach. For me, that's one of the funniest storylines for this World Cup.

SPEAKER_06

I'm sick of Yokures. How can your signature move be a bad touch? And it's always the outside the foot thick that he does. Like it's going back to the sideline.

SPEAKER_07

His signature move is he scores goals.

SPEAKER_06

That's the signature. His signature is a bad touch. Stop lying to yourself. It's it's Aura Farm.

SPEAKER_02

They do this. Yoko Isaac does this and Yokures does this.

SPEAKER_06

I'm sick of Yokures. Isak passed him the ball for a goal. Yokohs went celebrated over there.

SPEAKER_07

Isak didn't pass shit. He didn't pass shit. He got tackled, the ball rebounded off his leg, fell to Yokoros, and he buried his own.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know if he didn't pass two assists.

SPEAKER_07

I don't know if he thought he passed that, he didn't pass it. He did. But well cut baby for Isak. One goal, two assists. Come on. I don't think anyone can talk to Yokoros. If Yokoros isn't bagging, you can you can genuinely say whatever you want. You can slander the guy and tell him he's the worst because he is one of the worst, just outright just technical ability footballers. But if you if you're saying as a striker, that's cap you're trying to slander him, what scores every game. The only reason Sweden are in the World Cup is because of Yokeres.

SPEAKER_06

There's players in the Kamber League that would do the exact same thing, and I've heard you bag them out, mate. Such a bad argument.

SPEAKER_07

It's such a bad argument. We've just said why Chris Wood is so good that shows Prem levels. Like Prem levels is like how good Chris Wood was against these other teams, but now Yokarez, you want to act like him scoring don't matter. You've never criticized the lab like this. You know what's crazy? I'm not hearing this.

SPEAKER_06

You know what's crazy? What type of player you like, Joby? You're doing the most for this Yokarez, like trying to keep him relevant in these talks and every all of this.

SPEAKER_07

I didn't bring it up.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. No, I'm just saying. Yokarez is a bad player. Yocharez is a bad player if he doesn't score. Exactly what I said. Exactly. But he's not a bad player. He's he's just not a he's not a an effective player for the team if he doesn't score. Yeah, he's purely output. Yeah, so he's purely output based. So if he bags for Sweden like he did, then it's job done tick. That's exactly what I'm saying. It's like when Haaland, it's like when Haaland first went to City and Haaland was touching the ball three or four times, but he was bagging goals. His job was to simply bag goals. It wasn't to be build-up play into all the bits and pieces that everybody loves. He was just there to literally be a striker and bag goals. If Joker does the same thing, like I sold my stocks on him, bro. I'll play a cam de him life and direct, and I said all my days. But if he bags a goal, I I can't I can't say nothing.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

You can you can still say something. I don't know.

SPEAKER_08

I can say that I sold my stocks, but I can't I can't say that.

SPEAKER_07

There's nothing that we don't know. So I don't I don't understand what what what's the what's the talking point. We know he's bad on the ball. Technical ability is is just highlighting it again why are you getting more pro. No one's cut. I know your go-to argument is say someone's triggered or cut them if you do it. Don't work.

SPEAKER_06

Bro, it's like it's like I I mentioned Yoko Res. There's an echo and it's you saying something about uh don't chat to him.

SPEAKER_08

I suppose Samuel was the one who brought this up. Exactly.

SPEAKER_07

I'm saying in general, exactly. I'm saying in general Samuel Land. Say let's Samuel Land. No, no, I just I'm just saying I enjoyed that dysfunctional two-step. It was like that two-man step. It was dysfunctional, but it worked, and it got them the win. And for me, I want to see more of Isak and York first playing together for Sweden. I like it. I enjoyed it a lot. Yeah. Uh let's go to. Oh, you got something else?

SPEAKER_06

No, no, no, no, no. I'm just gonna game of York and Issack.

SPEAKER_03

Uh I just want to ask a question to the group. Do you think that this is this World Cup is the lowest quality South American teams we've seen at any World Cup?

SPEAKER_07

Great point. And yes, absolutely.

SPEAKER_03

You Argentina aren't what they were. Brazil are no.

SPEAKER_07

You know, you guys know Brazil finished fifth. That's a great take.

SPEAKER_03

They almost didn't qualify. Fifth.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, fifth in the game.

SPEAKER_03

Ecuador finished second, and they got worked.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Paraguay. That's a Paraguay didn't terrify goals terrible for like five games in a row or some shit. Panama lost to Ghana.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Paraguay beat both. Uruguay are awful.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah. Uruguay.

SPEAKER_06

All of these guys like just try to lock up defense and then they'll concede, and then that whole game plan's gone out the window.

SPEAKER_03

Then they start to scramble for points. Colombia as well. Good win. It's it's really all hopes on Argentina. But even comparing to their lot to the last World Cup, they're not they're not close to that level, in my opinion.

SPEAKER_01

You know what I think might be contributing to that. I think none of them really have an elite level striker. No definitely. Who you're like, this guy is bad. Like Brazil, Brazil dropped the ball by not taking Jal Pedro. So as a striker, they have Andruke, who's cancelled by Ancelotti. Yeah. And then they've got no reason. The guy who is the worst performer when you watch him live that I've ever seen. And who does Colombia have up front? John Durant's Suarez canceled.

SPEAKER_07

They've got Luis Suarez, but he's replacement from sporty's replacement. But Argentina dude like that. Argentina still that's what I'm saying. Only Argentina dude. Lutaro and start Lotaro and not Alvarez. Was it an injury thing? I don't know. Yeah, bro. They do that. They do that. Lutaro still. I think I just love Lutaro. He runs, that's why. Yeah, but how can you not play? Like, I get it that Alvarez should play, but Lotaro scores a million goals. He when they won Copa America, their last Cup America, he finished top scorer. Won the league. He scores every week in Serie A. Yeah. So I feel like if you put him on to run around for 60 minutes and then bring Alvarez on, you know.

SPEAKER_06

Alvarez didn't he didn't look upset either. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Nobody's upset. They can be upset on that team, bro. Because you know, you know your role. My favorite thing, I think talking points, we we touched on it, but knowing your role, it has to be the motto of the World Cup. Know your fucking place. Deny, do not mix ambition and ability. Only certain guys can be on the team doing whatever they want. And naturally, and and and that's how your team's gonna succeed. I think you guys are right. Defoe know your damn role. Know your damn role. That's gonna be the name of the episode. Yeah, Dembele, but tell Dem Bele where he rolled. There we go. No, no, no. Save it, save it, save it, because we're about to go.

SPEAKER_06

You guys are very quick to jump to conclusions. It's round one. Relax. True, true.

SPEAKER_07

Relax. One piece of information that you already thought, but now has been confirmed. I'll go first. I thought initially, I saw, I woke up one morning, Anthony Gordon, 80 mil to Barcelona. And I thought, is are we living in an alternate universe? Is this just like a universe where anything can happen and things don't have to make sense? Because Anthony Gordon should never ever be at Barcelona. You know, like when you used to do Korean, there'd be some signings that that make sense and some that don't make sense. And you wanted to only do realistic signings. Like you wouldn't go Arsenal sign fucking Cristiano Ronaldo, play left wing. You wouldn't do it because it doesn't make sense. Gordon should not be anywhere near one of the best clubs in the world because he's fucking stock standard average. And you saw it today. The guy that Barsa don't want comes on and it was a million bucks compared to the guy that just they said hardworking Garnacho. How can your slander name be just another player and hardworking? And Garnacho.

SPEAKER_08

I don't think that's the hardest. I think that's a nice bit, the Garnacho bit.

SPEAKER_06

What did these scouts see? Like, what are we missing? We've seen them for at least like six or seven seasons now.

SPEAKER_07

What are they doing? Surely Yamal's going like, we need to win the Champions League this year, we fell short. And then he looks at who they signed. He sees that they've got Anthony Gordon coming in. He's probably thinking, What the fuck is going on?

SPEAKER_06

They're about to do what they did to Messi, force him out. Watch. Yama's gonna come out crying one day.

SPEAKER_08

It's I think it's technically cheaper to have Gordon for 80 mil and lower wages over five years than it is to have rash fit for 30 mil with 300 plus wages, even though he wants it to decrease.

SPEAKER_07

I think that's the why like anybody else in the world. Yeah, why get Marcola? Exactly. Even Barcala, yeah. Something that makes more sense. Barcola can go to Barca. He's not asking for 300k a week. Yeah, that's what I don't understand why. Even, even, I'm not even saying Mar Nelly is better than Gordon, but if Barca had signed Mart Nelly because they wanted a hardworking winger, to me, that makes more sense than them going to get Anthony Gordon. Why what I don't know. I don't know. I actually don't know.

SPEAKER_06

Did you see him do the interview? Did you see him do the interview in Spanish?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, blue.

SPEAKER_06

That confirms we're living in a like a different universe.

SPEAKER_03

I couldn't believe it. How can a person that looks like that speaks fluent Spanish?

SPEAKER_07

He speaks Spanish like how Bellerin speaks English, like how it kind of looks like why is he talking like that? But but yeah, you're talking about you're talking about a brom accent.

SPEAKER_08

Why is Bellerin talking about the Brom accent? No, no, not Bellingham, Bellerin. Oh, Bellerin.

SPEAKER_01

R R P Bellerin. Yeah, he had like a mandem accent.

SPEAKER_07

And you're like, why do you sound like that? It's like that Raya, that Raya accent. It's like English but Spanish together. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I don't re I re thought that Raya was like at Stoke in like all these clubs at a young age. I always forget that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Do you reckon um Gordon just said, you know what? Let's ask for 300k. Let's I mean for 80 mil, let's see what they do. And he's probably like, ah, they're gonna reject the first one.

SPEAKER_07

Newcastle, you mean, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, Newcastle. They're gonna reject the first one. We'll probably take 55, 40. But these guys accept it straight away.

SPEAKER_08

I know we spoke about it's still a lot, man. It's a lot of money, but like inflation. There's inflation at them, it isn't it? Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

80 ain't that much anymore. I give it to no, but for Barcelona, it's an eight a lot. Van Hecker was 50 something mil. You remember what a 50 mil defender was like? If no no no, yeah. If Elliot Anderson is goes for 120, Steven Gerrard would be worth 480. No, he wouldn't have to be able to do it. Elliot Anderson would respectfully, he wouldn't.

SPEAKER_06

120 Anderson. He's got no fucking medals in the prep, nothing.

SPEAKER_08

If Elliot Anderson goes for 120, then Gordon is 80 mil. Like respectfully. I agree.

SPEAKER_07

No, Gordon is 80 mil. Barca do not have 80 mil for Gordon. Barca do not have just normal like hospitality drinks, chips, everything. They don't have that shit. So for them to be spending 80 mil on fucking Gordon.

SPEAKER_06

And who's buying a Gordon shirt? Who's buying Gordon shit?

SPEAKER_07

Who for Barca is buying a Gordon shirt from Spain? No Barca fan will ever buy a Gordon shirt. The fuck? They already have Gordon. They have Spanish Gordon. Why do they need English Gordon? Exactly. You guys didn't see that that Liverpool signed some random Spanish winger today. Yeah, I saw hijacked some milk. Never seen this guy 40. 40. Never seen this guy play in my life and he's cost 40 mil. And you hijacked.

SPEAKER_04

Hijacked.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

That's just a normal buy, mate. No, no, Newcastle apparently were meant to sign it.

SPEAKER_07

We've done to Newcastle already. And Liverpool hijacked it because apparently Ireola wanted him for Bournemouth. I feel like it's really easy for to throw to like throw Liverpool off the scent of someone and make them like, oh, I wanted to buy this guy for 40 mil, but I don't have the money. And they're like, oh, we got the money. We'll buy him.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, did you say 40? We can buy it. 40. We have that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

And I it's so confusing. Bro, you've seen Diamond and Barcala, and yet you still put 40 mil to this winger who for me. Why?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, why why not? Do you think Barsa have like it's like that one guy that's like scared of rejection, don't I and they don't ask like the lame girl out. Because they they think they're very yeah, they've like made the scenario, they're gonna say no. So fuck that out. We'll just go for this one. We'll just throw money here. They can't tell hearing though, I think. Just go throw money at Bar Colo. Throw whatever you just threw at Gordon. I guarantee you would have said yes.

SPEAKER_07

If Barca signed Liao, even it would make more sense than them getting. You know, he can do some and cheap Brazil in it. Even if they went to City and said, Give me Savinho, who doesn't play, who doesn't do anything, you'd be more like Savinho, uh, he's techie, he's Brazilian, you know, it makes a little bit more sense.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's not even the best version of Gordon. It's not Gordon two, three seasons ago.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. One of the one of the guys uh we played with last year, this Japanese guy, he's friends with Maeda, and um who's the other guy's friends with, Samuel? I don't know, I don't remember. One other guy. No, I don't know, somebody. And he said he was speaking to Maeda after the game, and he he was saying that it genuinely uh impossible, they could not touch, get near anything Diong in the game. Like it it felt like you you would go anywhere near him, he couldn't lose the ball. He would never get pressed, he would just be he would see them coming from everywhere, he would never lose the ball once. He said it was the hardest player he's ever played against. Really makes sense, yeah. Makes sense. Because he's like a perfect mix of intelligence, tech, and speed. Imagine trying to press a guy who is lightning fast. That would it would be impossible. It's like those powerful midfielders who just drive with the ball, but him, he can spin and turn. Yeah, it would be. Yeah, yeah, sure. Uh Bud Samuel, you got anything that whoever doesn't know that shit. You got uh talk, you got something that you thought, but has now been confirmed after match day one. Yeah, yeah. Everyone knows, everyone knows that Killian Mbappe, when it comes to putting on the France jersey, is the guy. Yeah, of course, because everyone knows that. Everyone except for one person on this show knows that.

SPEAKER_06

One guy I didn't say anything about Mbappe. I just said he has to.

SPEAKER_07

No, you said he should you said Mbappe should step down as being the guy and it should be Dembele's team. See, that's your problem. You said everyone's sick of him and they would be better without him. You said that France will be better without Mbappe. You're lying. This is where I watched the episode back. I watched the episode back, and you'd be crowded.

SPEAKER_06

Everyone watched everyone watching, they'll know. I clearly said if Dembele wants to take over, he has the right to because of the season he's had the last two years.

SPEAKER_07

You can't just take half of your point, you can't take half of your point and then just forget the rest of your point. Anyways, match week one. You also said Mbappe would be the biggest disappointment of the World Cup.

SPEAKER_06

Match week one. We're already glazing Mbappe. We just need to relax.

SPEAKER_07

Why can't we? Why can't we? No, I'm just saying it was one of the toughest flops. It was it was the probably the second toughest first game against the game.

SPEAKER_06

All right, give Messi the World Cup right now then. Bag two. He bagged two. Give Messi the World Cup right now, then. I don't know what that means. Well, you're already jumping to conclusions. You may as well just give Messi the World Cup. What's the conclusion? Well, you think just because of one round, you think this guy can't have a flop of a of a of a campaign still.

SPEAKER_07

No, I'm saying just because of this one round, it re-cemented the position that Mbappe is the guy for.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, just give Messi the World Cup and he can get Ballador 2027-28.

SPEAKER_07

Okay. If that was anything I can't go by, why can't Patrick still the best player in the world, bro? If he wants to be.

SPEAKER_06

I got one more. Uh I made a video the other day about Hakan Shonelogalu. Yeah. Wasio. No response. The interview he did about Australia uh about the opponents he versed, yo, former captain. Artigula after the game talked a lot better than you. He said, Congratulations to Australia, you know. That's what you do. You're a captain of your country, and you want to take away from a win that you didn't deserve because he's making it seem like they were the better team. Which fucking he must have been in the other universe that we used to be in, where Golden was still at Newcastle. Yeah, yeah. That universe. World ain't the same, buddy. It it was such a hard watch because I was looking, I was like, Wait, and this guy might, you know, be like, congratulations, Australia. Well done, that's it. That's all they have to say. This guy went and said two long goals. First of all, that's not even English. And second, it wasn't just two long goals. One of the goals was probably goal in the tournament so far, I would say, or up there. And the other one, where are you? That's another midfielder. That's a guy in around your area. You should have been marking him then if it's a long goal. True. Because you can't say if it's if it's if it's a short goal, then you can yell at your defenders. But if it's a long goal, like you said, you're there, you're the sixth apparel. So where are you? This Mongol short goal thing is kind of funny.

SPEAKER_07

What what so what was confirmed? What you said long goal as well. What's he's a Wasio? What's something that you thought? Oh, he's a Wasio. Yeah, yeah. That's what it's confirmed. Yeah, he's a he's a fucking Wasio.

SPEAKER_06

I used to like him. You remember when I used to talk about him? I said, How can I get a chance to do it?

SPEAKER_02

You scrap three of the worst, three of the worst uh predictions.

SPEAKER_06

This this I've never wanted to scrap a take more than that one. Yeah, I'm I'm sick of I'm sick of fair tonight.

SPEAKER_08

Um one one thing for me is going into this tournament, Tuchel being the coach of England, he wants ball playing, centre backs, he wants to play the ball. England somewhat struggled in that first um that first phase, but one thing I've been so used to like watching Arsenal and having a goalkeeper that's good with his feet play. And for me, I was like thinking, if Tuchel wants to play this way, how the hell is Pickford gonna be part of this system? And watching that game, like we saw John Stones playing the ball. I was in panic mode every time Pickford he's got no right foot, he can't like roll the ball, he can't like move the ball smoothly, it's all robotic. And I'm like, this could be the demise of England's first phase build-up. So that's confirmed now that maybe we may need to keep a change. We may need to keep a change. No, but their options aren't any better.

SPEAKER_07

Great.

SPEAKER_08

The opins aren't great at all. I know he's go, he's he's great, but if Tuchel wants to play this, he's good, he's a good goalkeeper, but I'm saying if Tuchel wants to play the way he wants to play, we may need to have that conversation around is this guy really the guy?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, he needs to go up in short sizes as well. Yeah, that's his head. Him and him and Tiny been fucking putting shit in the the dryer instead of fucking hanging it. Since we got more things, I got one more. Go on. Um fuck, I just lost today. Uh well.

SPEAKER_03

I got one. Samuel, in your tom. And and you'll I think you'll be happy with this. So I think slot was the right decision. Because the Liverpool players in these first games. I swear all of them either got some sort of stat or were unbelievable when they played. Allison was solid, Van Dyke scored, Salah assist, Gravenberge to assist and was incredible. Like okay.

SPEAKER_07

Did you hear that? Yes. Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_06

Guys, did you hear that? He didn't talk about a defender defending, he just said a defender scoring a goal. Okay. That's how we're rating Van Dyke.

SPEAKER_03

I'm just highlighting he can do it at both ends.

SPEAKER_05

Um, I just say more. Van Devart said it right. Van Devart said it right. That's all I'm gonna do.

SPEAKER_03

Also, what's wrong with that guy? Every tournament he comes out and says like their best players are the worst thing he's ever seen.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, just says also was the one on your mouth not long ago.

SPEAKER_06

He's one from four right now. Uh you try against which one's the one.

SPEAKER_07

You know, you saw you saw what istak can do without with that with more than two touches of the ball in a game.

SPEAKER_03

You saw what Wertz can do?

SPEAKER_08

Damn. Yeah, exactly. No, but Verz was still good for Germany last year in when he was going web. He's always good for Germany. Yeah, that's right.

SPEAKER_07

He has blood on his hands. Verts is good for Germany, yeah. Istac, on the other hand.

SPEAKER_03

When he was hands on his knees, breathing in 44th minute.

SPEAKER_08

The goal he scored. The goal he scored. The keeper should have saved that. No, it's too bad.

SPEAKER_07

He didn't fake as well. The guy honestly was shot, completely shot 30 minutes into the game. If you cannot do other than he's bent over in the podium, against two 87th.

SPEAKER_02

And they jumped up 87th. They don't care about it.

SPEAKER_07

Is he actually before the game? Nah, nah, you don't need to train Tom. Come on. Clearly, he does.

SPEAKER_06

I've never seen them use that voice thing for him to get an assist. They use the fucking microphone exactly to record him getting a touch for an assist.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's how he could see it. That's how good he is.

SPEAKER_06

No, that's not that's that's benefit of the doubt. That's like a try in origin. He provided a lot of benefit of doubt. I know.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, fair enough. Guys, before we wrap up, I just want to quickly tell you who's still in the running for their prediction. So for Golden Boot, Denai, Jeremy, Michael, and Samuel are all very much in the running. Um Deny predicted Mbappe, MJ Kane, Samuel Messi, Jeremy Havertz.

SPEAKER_06

But I get to do a real letter. Four out of the five. Because the guy came off the bench. It's like a bet. But Memphis depart.

SPEAKER_02

I told you he's not starting, and you said yeah.

SPEAKER_06

I didn't adopt that.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I thought he would. I thought he would. Tom, Tom, give me your golden boot prediction. I'll write it down, considering it's only matched to you.

SPEAKER_08

No, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_03

You can't pick anybody who's no, he can't pick anybody who's I would I would have probably said cane before.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, give him cane, I guess. Yeah, you're gonna have cane, you fucking wank. Tom, say Harland. I don't think they'll go that far. He's gonna score double next game, trust. Golden ball, golden ball. Three of us said your mall. Still in the running. I mean he scored. Yeah, but he stinks. And buddy. Give me Kane again. Tom Kane. Okay, good. I think England will win it, so it makes sense. Surprise. No, you can't change. Uh surprise package. Jeremy went ivory coast. I would say I'd say so far. Samuel Croatia. Still alive. What? It's still alive. Not great. I think mine's the worst one here. No. Mine is. Well, who do I say again? No, someone else's is the worst one here. But I remix mine when I remix mine. Dana, you had USA.

SPEAKER_08

So yes, so I did, yes.

SPEAKER_07

You had Ecuador. And somebody here for the eighth tournament in a row. Turkey.

SPEAKER_02

Turkey! All in half.

SPEAKER_06

No horse. This is all-star. Three in a row, maybe. This is the kickstart they needed. Hey, Argentina lost their first game.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. They're gonna go all the way. Perfect. Uh Tom, can I get a surprise package? I would have said Ecuador, I reckon. Yeah. Well, you don't have to say them now, because they're probably not gonna be a surprise package. Oh shit. So I've got to choose one. Tom, say Congo or something. Say Kano. Saudi.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe I'll say fuck it and say Australia. Or Scotland. Scotland are bad.

SPEAKER_07

No, Tom, Scotland are taking a point. They're taking at least one point from Brazil. I'm telling you. Scotland are not good.

SPEAKER_03

You didn't watch that game against Payne. Samuel's gone for his stripes options are Shankland and Dykes. Are you kidding me? Jay Adams plays 10. Samuel's gone for his own.

SPEAKER_07

Samuel left because of the 10th minute. Every 10 minutes he just continued. Somebody gave me the internet, please. Biggest disappointment, bud, bud. This is actually a good prediction, half of your prediction. You went Brazil. No, he didn't. He changed. Slash slash Mbappé. He changed. Yeah, he changed to Mbappé. I'm one half right. Jeremy went Dembele. Dembele, Balando. And Issac. X Isaac, which I'm keeping. Samuel went Portugal slash Ronaldo, looking good so far. MJ went Morocco. We'll see how that pans out. They look like Brazil. They look like a tonight went Brazil. Tonight said Brazil will get knocked out before the quarterfinals. Potentially.

SPEAKER_08

I don't rate my man.

SPEAKER_07

Yep. And then Tom, you got a you got a biggest disappointment.

SPEAKER_03

I would have said Brazil for sure.

SPEAKER_07

Brazil again. Yeah. Very convenient, these answers from you. Should have asked me last year, man. Nothing wrong with Dump. And then once to watch, Bud went Namecha. Mine was shit, man. It's a great who did you say? You said someone Ali. Yeah, sweetie. He didn't even get Ali. He said. Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's got a blind play.

SPEAKER_08

No, no, no. I remixed this one. I remixed I said candidac.

SPEAKER_07

Jonathan David, he said. And then he was sitting on Jonathan David, ex-Drake.

SPEAKER_08

No. Oh no, no, no, no, no, no. That was the Promised David remix. Promised David Jonathan David was terrible in that game.

SPEAKER_07

Promised the goal. Samuel, you said come on. Yeah, he had an awful game again. It was awful. To be honest. Samu's gone again. Yeah, Samu's gone again. My internet is cooked, bro. Somebody pay for my internet. Please, crowd. Please support me. Please. Please. And Jeremy had in beyond. Ooh, but that was after the first game, surely. Nah, we did pre-predictions, bro. Tom does after the first game. Tom wants to watch.

SPEAKER_03

Hmm. Let me pick one that's already come true.

SPEAKER_08

Come over here, Tom. Come to the six.

SPEAKER_03

What do you want me to say?

SPEAKER_08

Canada.

SPEAKER_03

Canada are terrible, man.

SPEAKER_08

The host nation, bro. Pick a host nation, man. Tom's to watch Messi.

SPEAKER_03

Messi. I actually probably would have said the Netherlands because I like something's gotta come good eventually. They've been bad for too long and their teams, alright?

SPEAKER_07

True.

SPEAKER_03

The AI picked them as well.

SPEAKER_07

Who did? AI. The AI that's picked the winners of the last four World Cups picked Netherlands. Holland to win, yeah. Yeah. What AI? It's just some type of AI computer. The one that picks all the winners, yeah. Yeah, the ones got it all right for the last bit. Maybe Kiristow will win actually this.

SPEAKER_08
